Hurricane Season Closes With an Unusually Quiet November

The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season comes to an end today, closing out a notably calm final month with no named storms recorded in November.

Meteorologists say the month was exceptionally quiet, with no tropical disturbances even highlighted in the National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Weather Outlook. Such a storm-free November is uncommon, especially in recent years when late-season systems have occasionally developed in the Caribbean or western Atlantic.

Forecasters attribute the lull to a combination of atmospheric stability, increased wind shear and cooler-than-average sea surface temperatures in key development regions—factors that worked together to suppress cyclonic activity.

While the overall 2025 season saw its share of storms earlier in the year, experts say the quiet end provided a welcome reprieve for coastal communities and emergency agencies across the region.

The next Atlantic hurricane season begins on 1 June 2026.
