Antigua and Barbuda honoured top travel advisors from key international markets on Friday at a black-tie awards gala held at Sandals Grande Resort.

More than 70 advisors from the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and the Caribbean received accolades at the second annual Black Pineapple Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA).

The event was attended by Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams, senior tourism officials, and industry representatives.

ABTA Chief Executive Colin C James told guests that tourism remained central to the country’s economy and identity.

“Tourism is not just an economic pillar—it is the heartbeat of our people,” he said, adding that each visitor brought to the islands “represents opportunity, hope and progress”.

Speaking on behalf of Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, Director of Policy and Planning St Clair Soleyn said the awards’ name reflected national pride, describing the black pineapple as “a symbol of our heritage, our hospitality and our authenticity”.

He said Antigua and Barbuda’s growing reputation as a premier destination was driven by strong partnerships with airlines, cruise lines, travel advisors and digital creators.

The ceremony closed with applause for the awardees, recognised for their role in promoting the twin-island nation worldwide.
