A 40-year-old U.S. woman was stopped at VC Bird International Airport last week after authorities discovered cannabis in her luggage as she prepared to depart Antigua.

Police were alerted by security personnel at the oversized baggage area and intercepted Keishell Labeach before boarding. Officers reported finding multiple packages, including transparent bags, capsules and Ziploc bags, containing a total of 163.4 grams of cannabis, valued at $1,634.

Labeach appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Her attorney, Wendel Alexander, told the court she had unintentionally left the substance in her suitcase and noted that she is four months pregnant and visiting from the United States, with Antiguan family ties.

The court upheld her $2,500 station bail with two sureties and ordered the surrender of her travel documents. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.
