_POLICE URGE PUBLIC TO REMAIN VIGILANT AGAINST JEWELLERY AND MOBILE PHONE THEFT_

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda

The police are urging residents to exercise increased vigilance and take practical steps to safeguard their personal property following recent reports of jewellery and mobile phone thefts.

In one incident, police are investigating a burglary at a residence in the Green Bay area shortly before midnight on Monday, June 29.

Preliminary investigations indicate that three unknown men allegedly forced their way into the home of female occupant.

The suspects reportedly stole several items, including gold jewellery, silver chains, a cellular phone, a handbag, and a jewellery box before fleeing the scene.

In a separate incident, police are also investigating the theft of a Samsung Galaxy A22 cellular phone, valued at approximately EC$650.00. The phone was reportedly stolen sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, while the owner was in the Joseph Lane area.

The Police Administration reminds members of the public that criminals often target valuables that are easily accessible or left unattended. Residents are therefore encouraged to:

• Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked, especially during the night.
• Install adequate lighting and, where possible, security cameras or alarm systems around their homes.
• Avoid displaying expensive jewellery in public unless necessary.
• Keep mobile phones and other valuables secured and never leave them unattended.
• Remain alert in public places and report any suspicious persons or activities to the police immediately.
• Record the serial numbers and identifying features of valuable items to assist with recovery if stolen.

The police continue their investigations into both incidents and appeal to anyone with information that may assist to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913/462-3914, the nearest police station, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
