Residents are calling for increased police attention in Swetes following reports of an armed robbery in the community on Tuesday, August 25.

According to information circulating in the community, two masked men, one reportedly armed, carried out the robbery at about 1 p.m. Two people were reportedly injured, while money and the business owners’ vehicle were stolen.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the condition of those injured have not been independently confirmed.

Residents say the robbery follows several other alleged crimes in Swetes, including home and business break-ins, chain snatchings and the theft of building materials. There are also unconfirmed reports that air-conditioning units and a generator were stolen from a container.

Community members are calling on law enforcement to increase patrols and investigate the reported incidents.

They are also urging parliamentary representatives Lamin Newton and Jamale Pringle to address overgrown vegetation and poorly lit areas, which residents believe could contribute to criminal activity.
