Customers disputing unusually high electricity bills from the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) may have to wait up to two and a half weeks for an investigation to be completed.
Chief Operating Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer Roger Tong said the process starts with a supervisor or meter reader checking the meter reading recorded on the customer’s account.
Where the reading is accurate but concerns remain, APUA can conduct a high-consumption assessment. A technical team will inspect the meter to determine whether it is operating properly.
If a faulty meter or billing error is identified, APUA can adjust the customer’s account.
However, Tong said recent complaints brought directly to his attention were investigated and the readings were found to be accurate.
