Curtain Bluff has become the first property in Antigua and Barbuda to achieve Platinum Green Globe Certification, marking a decade of excellence in environmental sustainability, community outreach, and responsible tourism.
The milestone was celebrated this week during the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, where Toya Turner, Reservations and Revenue Manager at Curtain Bluff, received the official Platinum Certification Plaque from Wendy Walker-Drakes, Managing Director of Green Globe Caribbean.
Tourism Minister Charles “Max” Fernandez joined the celebration, commending the resort’s commitment to sustainable hospitality. “Curtain Bluff has set a national benchmark. This achievement highlights the vital link between tourism and responsible environmental stewardship,” he said.
The Platinum Certification is awarded to properties that maintain Green Globe standards for 10 consecutive years.
Curtain Bluff has been recognised for its leadership in water conservation, producing its own potable water via reverse osmosis and using grey water for irrigation—entirely independent of municipal supply. The resort has also cut plastic use by 40% and invests heavily in local community programmes.
Green Globe CEO Birte Pelayo praised the resort’s long-term commitment. “Curtain Bluff has consistently demonstrated that luxury and sustainability can coexist. This recognition places them at the forefront of eco-tourism in the region,” she stated.
Anique Goodwin, Human Resource Manager and one of the resort’s Green Globe leaders, expressed pride in the collaborative effort behind the award. “This isn’t just about Curtain Bluff—it’s about empowering our staff and our community to embrace practices that protect future generations,” she said.
Karim King, who oversees security, landscaping, and leisure at the resort, highlighted the resort’s close ties with Old Road village. “Curtain Bluff’s sustainability efforts are deeply personal. They benefit not just our guests, but the community where I was born and raised,” he shared.
This landmark achievement underscores Antigua and Barbuda’s growing reputation as a destination where responsible tourism is not only encouraged but celebrated.
