As the 2025 hurricane season begins, Antigua and Barbuda is 90% prepared, according to the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS).

At a recent press conference, NODS officials outlined the country’s disaster readiness, highlighting strong coordination among partner agencies despite funding challenges that have affected training and equipment.

Preparedness and Response Manager Anderson Tuitt rated overall readiness between eight and nine out of ten, citing positive feedback from recent stakeholder meetings.

With forecasts predicting 21 named storms, including nine hurricanes—five of them major—Tuitt said the country is well-positioned to respond.

NODS credited proactive planning and inter-agency cooperation for the high level of preparedness as the nation braces for potentially severe weather.
