Urban Transformation Minister Rawdon Turner has revealed detailed plans to upgrade the Woods Pond market area, announcing the launch of a Vendor Intervention Project aimed at modernising the site where fruit and vegetable vendors have operated for decades.

In a public statement accompanied by concept drawings, Turner described the initiative as a long-overdue investment in both infrastructure and the livelihoods of vendors who form part of Antigua and Barbuda’s food supply chain.

“We’re building with vendors in mind — and with community at heart,” Turner said, noting that the current state of Woods Pond lacks the structure and cleanliness the area deserves.

The concept images show a clean, organised layout with designated vending spaces, covered stalls, and improved sanitation facilities. Turner said the goal is not just to beautify the space but to create a more functional and supportive environment for daily commerce.

“This upgrade is about supporting the people who feed our nation, preserving livelihoods, and encouraging healthy, local eating,” he added.

Turner invited public feedback as the project moves forward, describing it as a collaborative effort to enhance the quality of urban spaces across the country.

Further details regarding the timeline and construction phases are expected in upcoming announcements.
