Civic activist Bonnietha John is urging Barbudans to tackle the island’s growing litter problem.

Following a recent clean-up effort, John said residents and volunteers should not have to repeatedly clean up after others. She called for litter wardens to be appointed and fines imposed on offenders to help protect the environment.

John, who recently contested a council seat, also called on elected officials to take greater responsibility.
