Two Members of Parliament have urged Antigua and Barbuda’s young people to embrace leadership, innovation, and resilience as they mark International Youth Day.

MP Maria Browne encouraged youth to “keep your heads up, work hard, and believe in your dreams,” reminding them that even in challenging times they have “the strength to overcome and the power to achieve great things.” She said this year’s theme — Local Youth Action for the SDGs and Beyond — underlines how their energy and creativity can help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, protect the environment, and strengthen communities.

MP Anthony Smith Jr. also paid tribute to the “energy, creativity, and determination” of the nation’s young people, calling them “a vital part of the present” as well as the future. He said true progress comes when generations work together, with elders serving as “trusted advisors” while making space for young people to “lead, innovate, and shape the direction of our nation.”

“To every young person: your time is now,” Smith said. “Your ideas, your voice, and your leadership are needed today; not someday.”
