Christopher Johnson has set a new national record in the shot put, marking the third time this year that the Delaware University standout has reset the mark.
Representing Antigua and Barbuda for the first time at the NACAC Senior Championships, Johnson threw a personal best of 16.98 metres, finishing seventh in a competition won by 2025 US National Champion Josh Awotunde.
Although he did not secure a podium finish, the 20-year-old’s performance highlights steady improvement and positions him to break the elusive 17-metre barrier in the coming season.
In track events, Antigua and Barbuda’s sprinters faced a tougher challenge. Darion Skerritt, the 2025 national champion in the 200 metres, finished fifth in Heat 4 with a time of 21.38 seconds, while 100 metres national champion Dwayne Fleming was fourth in Heat 1 of the 200 metres, clocking 21.34 seconds. Both athletes failed to advance to the finals.
Other national performances included Cejhae Greene, who placed ninth in the 100 metres with 10.35 seconds, and Jalen Dyett, who ran 47.19 seconds to finish 14th in the 400 metres.
