The Jane E. Toussaint (JET) Foundation is proud to announce its official launch and the introduction of its first public initiative, the Wadadli Healing Symposium, to be held on 6–7 October 2026 at The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.
Inspired by the enduring legacy of Jane E. Toussaint, affectionately known as ‘Granny Janie “the Foundation was established by the Underwood family to carry forward a tradition of service, compassion and community development.
Built on generations of caring for others, the Foundation seeks to ignite the potential of Antigua and Barbuda’s youth through transformative programmes in education, health, sports and the arts while fostering resilient communities through opportunity, service and exceptional talent.
The Foundation envisions an Antigua and Barbuda where compassion and integrity drive systemic progress and every citizen is empowered to lead a life of creativity, good health and service.
Its work is guided by four interconnected pillars—Education, Health, Sports and the Arts—which are designed to create measurable, community-centred impact.
As its inaugural initiative, the Wadadli Healing Symposium reflects the Foundation’s commitment to addressing some of the country’s most pressing social challenges through education, dialogue and practical action.
Over two days, local, regional and international experts will share research-informed, culturally relevant strategies focused on Mental Health and Healing, Parent Engagement, Youth Development and Male Engagement.
The Symposium is designed for parents, educators, youth leaders, mental health professionals, faith-based organisations, non-profit organisations, community advocates and members of the public who are committed to building stronger families and healthier communities. Participants will leave with practical tools, new perspectives and skills that can be applied within homes, schools, workplaces and communities.
“Our Foundation exists because we believe lasting change begins when people are equipped with knowledge, empowered by opportunity and inspired to serve one another.
The Wadadli Healing Symposium is our invitation to the nation to begin that journey of healing together,” stated, Jerome Underwood, one of the foundation’s directors.
Admission to the Symposium is free, and the public is encouraged to attend, participate in meaningful conversations, learn from internationally recognised experts, including Dr. Joy DeGruy, and become part of a growing movement dedicated to healing, resilience and lasting community transformation.
