About 80 yachts are expected to arrive in Antigua between November 10 and 15 for the returning Salty Dogs Rally, with most set to remain based on the island throughout the winter.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism Michael Freeland said the sailors’ return following last year’s visit offers another opportunity to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s relationship with the sailing community.

The extended stay could bring business to marinas, marine technicians, provisioning companies, restaurants and other local service providers during the winter season.

Ahead of the arrivals, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has provided welcome packages combining local products with practical information about the island’s marine facilities and services.

The packages include rum miniatures sponsored by English Harbour Rum, along with hot sauce, caps and marine guides. Devin Joseph, the authority’s Yachting Business Development Manager, made the presentation on its behalf.

Tourism officials hope the rally’s return will encourage repeat visits and reinforce Antigua’s appeal as a winter base for yacht owners and crews.
