Promoters Reminded of Requirements for Promotional Competitions Under the Consumer Protection Act
As the upcoming Black Friday and Christmas shopping season approaches, the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is issuing a timely reminder to all organizers of promotional competitions regarding the mandatory requirements for conducting promotional competitions under Section 133 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2025.
The holiday season traditionally brings a surge in promotional activities, including raffles, prize draws, and other promotions designed to reward consumers. Section 133 of the Act aims to safeguard consumers by ensuring that all promotional events are conducted with transparency, fairness, and strict compliance with the law. The legislation outlines the responsibilities of promoters, including the requirement to clearly disclose the terms and conditions of competitions, the method of winner selection, and the prizes to be awarded.
All persons or suppliers intending to hold a promotional competition must submit their full rules, terms and conditions, and promotional materials to the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division prior to launching the activity. Promoters must ensure that all details regarding entry, drawing, and prize distribution are clearly communicated and strictly adhered to without deceptive practices.
Persons are encouraged to ensure full compliance before holding any promotional campaigns. Non-compliance with statutory provisions can lead to regulatory interventions or penalties.
