Motorists attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) ceremonial parade at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sunday, November 1, will not be allowed to drive directly to the venue under security arrangements announced by the Traffic Department.
Corporal Brendon Sutherland said a park-and-ride system has been established, requiring attendees to leave their vehicles at designated parking areas and use free shuttle buses to reach the stadium.
The designated parking locations are the playing fields in Parham, Seaview Farm and Pigotts.
All passengers must register through the TickeTing app to obtain a free ticket before boarding a shuttle bus.
“It is free. Absolutely free. You don’t have to pay for it,” Sutherland said. “You just have to register and get the ticket.”
He stressed that passengers without tickets will not be permitted to board the buses.
“You have to get a ticket in order to board the shuttle buses to go to the stadium. You will not be able to drive up to the stadium as you normally do,” he said.
Tickets will be assigned according to designated zones, with attendees directed to different stadium entrances depending on their parking locations.
Sutherland said strict security measures will be enforced around the stadium, including road closures and checkpoints restricting regular vehicle traffic.
Several checkpoints will be established between Factory Grounds and Parham Corner, with only shuttle buses, official escort vehicles and emergency vehicles permitted to pass.
He compared the arrangements to a security simulation conducted several months ago, during which vehicle access to the area was tightly controlled.
The Traffic Department is urging motorists who do not plan to attend the parade to use alternative routes on November 1 to avoid disruptions caused by the security restrictions.
The ceremonial parade forms part of activities surrounding CHOGM 2026, which Antigua and Barbuda will host from November 1 to 4.
