Wednesday, August 5th 2026, St. John’s, Antigua – The Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF), in collaboration with the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS), has once again provided assistance to a citizen requiring urgent overseas medical care by supporting the medical travel of Mr. Ulysis James to Martinique for specialised cardiac treatment.
Mr. James was admitted to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after suffering an acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), commonly known as a heart attack. Despite receiving appropriate emergency treatment, he later developed recurrent chest pain and further clinical findings indicating the need for urgent specialist intervention not currently available in Antigua.
Following assessment by his medical team, Mr. James was referred to CHU de Martinique, where he will undergo specialised cardiac treatment.
The Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) approved funding to cover the full cost of Mr. James’ medical treatment while The Calvin Ayre Foundation supplemented this support by covering the patient’s medical travel expenses, ensuring he could access the urgent care required without unnecessary delay.
Mr. James’ daughter, Mrs. Shereen James Galloway, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the support her family received throughout the process.

The kindness, compassion and professionalism shown by the Calvin Ayre Foundation, CalvinAir, EMT Jeremias Samuel, and everyone involved made an incredibly difficult journey so much easier for our family. They gave us hope when we needed it most, and we will always be grateful.”
