Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene has called on the Americas to renew their commitment to democracy and social justice, warning of “growing instability” across the region.

In an ABS interview, Greene said this month’s OAS General Assembly in Antigua and Barbuda would take place against a backdrop of rising inequality, political division, and external interference.

“Too many citizens feel left out of the democratic dividend,” Greene warned. “We must reaffirm that democracy is not just elections, but inclusion, accountability, and peace.”

He highlighted the war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, and economic pressures from global powers as external factors that demand collective resilience.

“Our hemisphere must resist being pawns in great power rivalries. We must find our own voice and values,” he said.

Greene hopes the OAS gathering will produce actionable commitments to governance reform, gender equity, and youth empowerment.
