The 2025 Carnival season in Antigua and Barbuda has been widely hailed as a major success, with organisers, security officials, and government leaders all commending the vibrant yet orderly celebration.
Despite the influx of visitors and a packed calendar of events, police reported only minor incidents, crediting a strong security presence for helping to ensure the festivities proceeded safely and smoothly.
Crowds of locals and international revellers flooded the capital and surrounding areas, with the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority confirming hundreds of arrivals specifically for the carnival season. This year’s theme — _“It’s a Vibe”_ — resonated widely, encapsulating the spirit of unity and celebration that defined the festival.
The Antigua Festivals Commission, led by Ambassador Lisa McKoy and Cecilia Thwaites, was praised for its seamless execution of the events. Minister of Festivals Daryl Matthew also received high commendation for his active presence and coordination throughout the celebrations.
The carnival’s entertainment schedule included marquee events such as the Mr. and Miss Teenage Pageant, the Panorama steel pan competition, and the Carnival Queen pageant — all of which drew large, enthusiastic crowds.
Musical performances featured regional heavyweights including Asa Banton, Triple K Global, and soca icon Machel Montano. They were joined by local favourites Burning Flames at the popular “Melting Pot” concert. Nigerian performer and social media personality Korra Obidi added international flair, performing and mingling freely among the St John’s crowds.
Political leaders also joined in the celebrations, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne and his wife making appearances throughout the carnival. Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle and St Mary’s South MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon were also seen enjoying the festivities.
While Tuesday’s grand parade signalled the official close of Carnival 2025, many side events kept the party alive well into the night. For those who took part, there was one common refrain that summed up the season: _“It’s a vibe” — and indeed, it was.
