We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Vonde Bowers, a bright young talent who recently toured the UK and Jersey with Antigua and Barbuda’s Under-21 cricket team.
🇦🇬 High Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill shared:
“I had the privilege of spending two weeks with Vonde during the tour. He was sensible, sensitive, and a gifted cricketer. We spoke about his determination to succeed in the sport and the choices he was making to support that goal. His loss is heartbreaking.”
🏏 Keith Williams of Keyworth Cricket Club in Nottingham, who hosted one of the matches, said:
“He was a very serious cricketer who carried himself with respect. He was a credit to his family, and this news fills me with grief.”
🇯🇪 Alison Morgan, CEO of Jersey’s LEAP Programme, added:
“We’re so sorry to hear this. Please send our love and condolences to his family, Winston, Brent, Dr. Greene, and all our Antiguan family. He’s in our thoughts and prayers.”
🏏 The Jersey Under-19s team also paid tribute:
“We were devastated to hear of Vonde’s passing and wore black armbands as a mark of respect in our match against Denmark yesterday. We would like to express our sincere condolences to Vonde’s friends and family—our thoughts and prayers are with them during this extremely difficult time.”
This heartbreaking moment reminds us that we must do more to protect, encourage, and nurture our youth. Every young life holds promise—and we all have a role in helping them thrive.
Rest in peace, Vonde. 💔🕊️
