An historic first for the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) and for aviation not only in Antigua and Barbuda but across the subregion.

The authority’s Commercial Manager Geneva George has successfully completed the Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP).

As a result, George has become the first woman in Antigua and Barbuda to have earned the prestigious credentials as International Airport Professional (IAP).

As an IAP, she now brings to the airport a comprehensive understanding of strategic airport planning, airside and landside operations, safety management systems, aviation security, and commercial development among others.

The AMPAP curriculum was developed by Airports Council International (ACI) in partnership with leading aviation institutions across the globe and equips its graduates with a comprehensive view of airport administration.

Ms. George, who has been serving the aviation sector for over 15 years and is now a senior member of the executive team of the Airport Authority, said she was proud to see that her hard work, sacrifice and sleepless nights have paid off.

“I am truly honored to bring these globally recognized skills to the ABAA and the VC Bird International Airport. The skills and knowledge I would have gained will be put to good use in ensuring that we continue to meet international standards and provide a world-class experience for every passenger,” George stated.

Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, the Hon. H. Charles Fernandez met with Ms. George to offer congratulations on her outstanding achievement.

“I am happy to join the Board of Directors of ABAA and the Executive Management in congratulating Ms. George on this accomplishment. Ms. George’s ambition and hard work is an inspiration to all, and I look forward to her continuing to drive excellence and elevate the standards of our airport,” Minister Fernandez stated.

With her historic achievement, Ms. George is clearly helping to position Antigua and Barbuda as a leader in professional excellence in the aviation sector within the Caribbean.
