Subject: Request for Accountability and Public Safety Assurance Regarding Bomb Threat of June 25, 2026, Affecting St. John’s and Cassada Gardens

    Dear Commissioner of Police,

I write to express serious concern regarding the investigation and apparent lack of public closure surrounding the bomb threat made against a statutory entity on June 25, 2026, affecting locations in St. John’s and Cassada Gardens.

The threat placed hundreds of lives at potential risk, including those of employees, visitors, neighboring businesses, and members of the wider public. Buildings were evacuated, including neighboring premises, traffic was diverted, and police officers, emergency personnel, and other public resources were immediately mobilized. The swift response and professionalism of all emergency personnel involved are acknowledged and commended. Their actions were essential in protecting lives and managing a potentially catastrophic situation.

However, while the emergency response was commendable, the public remains concerned about what happened after the immediate threat was addressed.

Members of neighboring businesses and the wider public have reportedly been seeking answers about the outcome of the investigation. It is alleged that the individual or individuals responsible have yet to be brought to justice. While investigations can be complex and certain information may not be disclosed publicly, the apparent absence of a clear update has understandably raised questions about whether the matter is being pursued with the seriousness it warrants.

These concerns are heightened by reports that, just a few months earlier, in April 2026, police arrested a 22-year-old male in connection with a bomb threat. While each case must be assessed on its own evidence and circumstances, the reported arrest raises a legitimate question about the apparent difference in the publicly known outcomes of these incidents.

Why has an arrest reportedly been made in one case, while the public remains uncertain about the investigative outcome of another incident that resulted in the evacuation of multiple buildings, including neighboring premises, and the substantial deployment of public resources?

Of even greater concern is the question of public safety. If the alleged perpetrator or perpetrators have not been identified or apprehended, should the public be worried that they may still be at large? Can the Police Force assure employees, business owners, residents, and other members of the public in St. John’s and Cassada Gardens that any continuing risk has been assessed and that all necessary measures are being taken to protect them?

In light of these concerns, I respectfully request clarification on the following matters:

    Investigation status:

What is the current status of the investigation into the June 25, 2026, bomb threat?

    Accountability:

Have any individuals been identified or apprehended in connection with the incident, and can the public be provided with an appropriate update?

    Public safety:

If the perpetrator or perpetrators remain unidentified or at large, what assurances can be given that any ongoing risk to the public is being addressed?

    Consistency in law enforcement:

How does the Police Force ensure that all bomb threats are investigated diligently and impartially, regardless of the identity or circumstances of those suspected?

    Public communication:

What responsibility does the Police Force have to provide reassurance to affected businesses and communities following an incident of this magnitude?

These questions are not intended to prejudge an investigation or undermine the work of the Police Force. They arise from legitimate concerns about public safety, accountability, and the responsible use of public resources. When an incident necessitates evacuations, traffic diversions, and the mobilization of emergency personnel, it is reasonable for the affected public to expect not only an effective immediate response but also diligent investigative follow-through.

The fundamental question is whether the public can be confident that the rule of law applies equally to everyone. Are all persons held to the same standard of accountability, or does the apparent difference in outcomes risk creating a perception that some individuals face consequences while others may escape them? No one should be presumed guilty without evidence, but neither should a serious threat to human life fade from public attention without appropriate investigation and accountability.

I respectfully ask that the Police Force provide an update on this matter to the extent permitted by law. If the investigation remains active, confirmation of its status would help address public concerns. If it has concluded, clarification of the outcome, where legally permissible, would be equally valuable.

The public deserves to know that threats to life are treated with the utmost seriousness, that reasonable efforts are being made to identify those responsible, and that appropriate steps are being taken to safeguard the community.

I trust that you will give this matter your serious consideration and provide a substantive response addressing these concerns.

    Worried Members of the Public
