— Market Street has reopened to traffic following emergency repairs, the Ministry of Works announced Thursday.
The ministry said the work included drainage repairs, steel and concrete work, and cleaning to restore the roadway.
The reopening comes as the government continues efforts to improve road infrastructure throughout St. John’s.
In a statement shared by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the ministry thanked the public for its patience during the repairs.
“We remain thankful for the public’s patience as we continue efforts to upgrade road infrastructure in St. John’s City,” the ministry said.
Photographs released by the ministry show sections of the repaired roadway, including newly completed concrete work.
The ministry did not specify the total cost of the emergency repairs.
Market Street was among the major roads previously identified for urgent rehabilitation ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, scheduled for Nov. 1-4 in Antigua and Barbuda.
The reopening comes just days before the international gathering, as road improvement projects continue across the capital.
