Kenya is seeking to attract foreign investment, expand international trade and strengthen diplomatic partnerships as it prepares to participate in the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2026) in Antigua and Barbuda.

Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, has arrived in Antigua and Barbuda ahead of the summit, scheduled for November 1-4 in St. John’s.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will lead the Kenyan delegation, representing President William Ruto at the biennial gathering.

The summit, being held under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” will focus on trade, investment, debt, climate financing and human capital development.

Kenya intends to use the gathering to promote investment-ready projects, identify new export markets and establish partnerships in infrastructure, energy, tourism, technology and the blue economy.

“CHOGM presents Kenya with an important platform to deepen trade, attract investment, expand market access and strengthen partnerships that support our national development agenda,” Sing’Oei said.

“Our focus is on translating diplomatic engagement into practical economic opportunities for Kenyans.”

According to Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trade among Commonwealth countries reached approximately US$880 billion in 2024, with the 56-member organisation targeting US$2 trillion by 2030.

Kenya will also advocate for greater African representation in international financial reforms, improved access to climate financing and expanded opportunities for young people and women through entrepreneurship, skills development and digital innovation.

The Kenyan delegation is expected to pursue bilateral discussions alongside the main summit, including efforts to secure international support for the country’s diplomatic priorities.

Among those priorities is Kenya’s campaign to have Supreme Court Judge Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u elected to the International Criminal Court for the 2027-2036 term.

Sing’Oei said Kenya’s participation would focus on securing partnerships capable of generating employment, encouraging investment and supporting sustainable economic growth.

“Kenya’s engagement is about ensuring that our voice is heard on issues that matter to developing countries, while building partnerships that can deliver investment, create jobs and support inclusive growth,” he said.

The government said the success of its participation in the Antigua and Barbuda summit would ultimately be measured by the investment opportunities secured, partnerships established and economic benefits delivered to Kenyans.
