The Ministry of Works has condemned what it described as deliberate damage to critical machinery being used to carry out road improvement projects across Antigua and Barbuda.

In a public statement, the ministry expressed strong disapproval of the incident, saying the damaged equipment plays an important role in upgrading the country’s road network.

“The Ministry of Works strongly condemns this recent incident of deliberate damage to critical machinery used to deliver upgrades to our nation’s roadways,” the statement said.

The ministry did not provide details about where the incident occurred, the extent of the damage or whether anyone had been identified as responsible.

Despite the incident, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing road improvement projects across the country.

It also thanked residents for their support and cooperation as work continues on major roads and community streets.

The ministry said it remains committed to delivering continued progress in upgrading the roadways that connect communities throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

The condemnation comes as the government continues a wider road rehabilitation programme, including resurfacing, drainage improvements and upgrades to major routes and community roads.

The ministry has not indicated whether the damage will affect the timetable for any of those projects.
