The Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, Michael Joseph was pleased to welcome the new UNICEF Representative for the Caribbean, Osama Makkawi, and members of the UNICEF team for discussions during a familiarization visit to Antigua and Barbuda.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for continued collaboration between the Ministry and UNICEF in advancing the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families.

The engagement formed part of Mr. Makkawi’s wider familiarization tour of the Eastern Caribbean, which included meetings with several senior government officials on the sidelines of CHOGM 2026.

The Ministry looks forward to strengthening its partnership with UNICEF in support of improved health outcomes and the continued advancement of child and family well-being in Antigua and Barbuda.
