Antigua and Barbuda will welcome Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to lead India’s delegation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, scheduled for November 1-4.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced the visit Wednesday, saying Jaishankar will travel to St. John’s after attending meetings in Atlanta.
The Commonwealth summit will be held under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” with a focus on economic cooperation, investment and stronger partnerships among member countries.
“India looks forward to its participation in this particular event,” ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a media briefing in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the summit’s theme reflects Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to international cooperation and shared prosperity.
“The theme speaks to a truth we live by in Antigua and Barbuda: when each of us plays our part – in our homes, our communities, and our nations – we all move forward,” Browne said.
“It echoes our national motto, ‘Each Endeavouring, All Achieving’, reminding us that real progress happens when we work together to build a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.”
Before arriving in Antigua and Barbuda, Jaishankar will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta on October 30-31, participate in a Quad foreign ministers’ meeting and hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts.
The Quad brings together India, the United States, Japan and Australia.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host the G20 gathering. According to the U.S. State Department, discussions will address geopolitical crises contributing to economic instability, including threats to maritime navigation, energy and food security, and international supply chains.
