LETTER:  Is Social Security really retrogressing. Why “walk in” to get an ID card is of the past?

    Dear Editor

In recent times Social Security has been the topic of national discussion.

Persons have become very dissatisfied with how their contributions have been managed and how certain aspects of the scheme is operated.

From pensions, to sickness & maternity payments not paid on time to no infrastructure on the lands at Paynters to Social Security funds been used as an investment in a hotel has peaked the people interest and the people’s cry.

Added to the list of wows, the issuing of ID cards seems to have taken some additional steps backwards. Persons no longer can walk in and apply for their cards. Surprisingly, an appointment has to be made and subsequently, a date will be given as to when the person can return to execute the application.

Medical Benefits on the hand, which seems to operate on a similar platform, allow their customers to walk in into office, process their application and allow the person to leave with their card. The process only takes about 10 to 15 mins. Why then does Social Security have to be different? Is this a case that Social Security is retrogressing.

The management team need to get their act together. They seem to be running the institution to the ground.

    Alex
