A donation of 10 wheelchairs to the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Persons with Disabilities has been hailed as a powerful step towards greater independence and participation for recipients.

Senator Michael Freeland, Chair of the National Social Protection Board, praised Affordable Tyres D&Y Sparkling for the contribution, describing it as an example of “real community support.”

Quoting association president Bernard Warner, Senator Freeland noted the impact of the gift: “Ten lives being changed. Ten people going to the supermarket, 10 people going to carnival next year, or even church.”

“These aren’t just wheelchairs—they’re gateways to independence, dignity, and full participation in our society,” he said, adding that effective social protection relies on collaboration between government, businesses, and citizens.

Senator Freeland said the gesture underscored Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, and thanked all who continue to support initiatives that help people live with dignity and opportunity.
