The Antigua & Barbuda Pan Association (ABPA) joins the global community in celebrating World Steelpan Day, extending warm greetings to all Antiguans and Barbudans at home and abroad.
In marking the occasion, ABPA President Patrick Stone Johnson expressed pride in Antigua and Barbuda’s significant role in the history of steelband development. “Our nation has contributed immensely to the evolution of this unique art form,” the President said. “From the pioneering work of the legendary CUB Hells Gate Steel Orchestra – now celebrating an extraordinary 80 years of existence – plus, to the enduring legacies of Harmonites, Halcyon, Gemonites, and Ebonites Steel Orchestras, our bands has shaped the sound and spirit of pan for generations.”
The President also extended best wishes to West Side Symphony, Panache, Original, and Pandemonium Steel Orchestras for their continued growth and success. “We especially commend all bands and their leaders who mentor and inspire our young panists,” the President added. “Your dedication ensures that the heartbeat of the pan movement will continue to resonate loudly into the future.”
The ABPA encourages the nation to celebrate the achievements of its pan community and to support the preservation, innovation, and teaching of the steelpan for generations to come.
Happy World Steelpan Day!
