Dear Editor,
The political race between Mr. Harold Lovell and Mr. Anthony Smith will definitely be an interesting race to watch. Both individuals, have political skeletons hidden in their political closets.
Presently, many persons are asking, why is Harold Lovell returning to frontline politics? They have even gone further to say that his political track record of winning a seat in parliament is certainly not the best.
It is true that the records definitely speak for itself. However, if one chooses to flip the page, persons will realize that Mr Lovell still has the political vigor within him and he is also bringing to the political table, experience, knowledge and inspiration to a political institution that needs him now more than ever. He can certainly be a cornerstone that a builder should not refuse.
Harold Lovell is a team player. He is also a warrior and has the attributes not only to lead, but his presence & defiant personality certainly creates an uneasiness for his opponents on the political battle field.
Listening to the talk shows and reading the online articles, it is obvious that Mr. Lovell’s return to the frontline of the political fray is beginning to stir up the political ants nest. It is very evident that his candidacy for this upcoming election has created some intimidation towards the ABLP camp.
Now, besides Mr. Lovell’s political track record, there are also some arguments that Lovell is old for the job and hence, cannot make a contribution at this age. But then, why are persons overlooking Lionel Max Hurst, Robin Yearwood, Molwyn Joseph & Steadroy ” Cutie ” Benjamin who I assume are all in their mid or late 70’s? Mr. Lovell is about 10 years their junior and still has alot to offer, so why then should Mr. Lovell’s age be a concern?
As a senior states man, Mr. Lovell may be the best candidate to lead All Saints East into the next general elections. Besides his experience and his political & legal knowledge, he is very much a people’s person & a person who cares and respects people, regardless of their economic status or background.
I will accept that Harold Lovell may have some work to do, but I am of the view that his chances of winning at the polls this time around, can be considered very high.
We cannot overlook that the constituents of All Saints East have felt betrayed, cheated & disrespected by Mr. Anthony Smith. The decision that he made to break ties with UPP & to create an alliance with ABLP has left a wound that will last for a long time.
Anthony Smith along with the support of ABLP has to go into overdrive to redeem himself. Presently, in the back of people minds, Mr. Smith is considered an enemy of the constituency and hence, he is not trusted to regain that political supremacy for the constituency.
