LETTER: A Call for Change as Harold Lovell Reenters the Arena

Listening to a recent radio interview on WTP, host Daren Matthew Ward was able to once again highlight the fundamental flaws plaguing the UPP.

During the interview, Chairwoman of the UPP, Giselle Isaac, applauded Harold Lovell for making a bold move to reenter the political arena. She emphasized his extensive experience, which she said will undoubtedly give him the edge over young Anthony Smith in ASW.

However, when asked about Harold Lovell’s potential challenge to Hon. Jamale Pringle for leadership, she was pretty clear that there would be no leadership contest.

I recall listening to an interview Harold Lovell did with Dr. Jacqui Quinn, in which he mentioned that former PM Baldwin Spencer had contacted him, asking him to return from retirement. At this point, I think that the UPP has absolutely no clue what they are doing.

The purpose of asking Harold Lovell to return to the political scene is to at least give the UPP a fighting chance at the next general elections….at least that’s what I thought.

The other MPs on the opposition side made it clear that they refuse to go to the next election with Jamale Pringle as leader. Why then would a veteran politician like Lovell belittle himself by subjecting himself to the incompetence of Jamale Pringle?

Recently, I came across an online article stating that the UPP missed the mark by not electing Richard Lewis as leader. Again, let us not forget that the other opposition MPs all signed a letter stating clearly that they have no confidence in Jamale Pringle as leader.

If my memory serves me correctly, I recall that Hon. Anthony Smith claimed the business community refused to support the UPP during Jamale Pringle’s leadership. As a matter of fact, he (Anthony Smith) made reference to a poll that was conducted, which influenced their decision.

Dear UPP, you have once again failed to inspire the electorate of this country. Your Chairwoman’s thirst for power and her insatiable desire for ultimate control will once again lead you down a familiar path of defeat.

Your MPs have spoken, your membership has spoken, and I think it’s fair to say that your supporters are speaking. I have nothing personal against Jamale Pringle. However, if we are to have competent and experienced leadership going into the next general election, he is not it.

He was fortunate to be placed in what some might consider a UPP garrison constituency, but now it seems less certain whether that still holds. There is no comparison between PM Gaston Browne and Jamale Pringle….none. I am asking you to think with the brain that God gave you and put your emotions aside. Look at the facts and give yourselves at least a fighting chance at the next polls…. We your supporters deserve it.
