Antigua and Barbuda’s Meteorological Service has lifted all storm alerts after Hurricane Erin passed safely north of the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands.

At 8:00 local time on Saturday, the Category 4 system was about 120 miles northeast of the Leewards, moving west-northwest at 20 mph.

Forecasters said Erin will continue to track north of the region over the weekend and is not expected to directly affect any islands.

The all-clear brought relief to residents who had been closely monitoring the hurricane throughout the week.
