A fire at the Old US Air Base in Coolidge on Monday left one detainee hospitalized, authorities have confirmed.

The blaze affected two units at the Immigration Detention Centre, prompting a response from fire crews with two tenders. Public Relations Officer Lester Bagot said the units were already ablaze when firefighters arrived.

“Water was used to control and extinguish the fire. The fire was confined to two units of the centre. The Fire Brigade is investigating the origin of the fire,” he added.

Another detainee at the site is set to be relocated, while a third remains at the base, pending further decisions. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
