Senior Counsel Tony Astaphan says the Gaston Browne administration must actively counter misinformation if it hopes to secure an unprecedented fourth term in office.
He argued that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) should focus on promoting its achievements — including road upgrades, the return of LIAT, the development of the West Indies Oil Company, new polyclinics, the UWI Five Islands Campus, and improvements in water production.
Astaphan added that ABLP members, supporters, and radio hosts need to be equipped with facts to challenge opposition claims.
In the 2023 election, the ABLP narrowly retained power with nine of 17 seats, compared to six for the United Progressive Party (UPP), one for the Barbuda People’s Movement, and one for independent candidate Asot Michael. This was a sharp decline from 2018, when the UPP secured just one seat.
