The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic, as Hurricane Erin continues to move northeast of the Bahamas.

In its latest outlook, the NHC said a tropical wave located over the central Atlantic could gradually strengthen in the coming days.

The system, currently producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms, is moving westward at about 20mph and is expected to approach the northern Leeward Islands by Friday. Forecasters say it has a 10% chance of development in the next 48 hours, and a 60% chance over the next week.

A second tropical wave, situated just south of the Cabo Verde Islands, is also being monitored.

While it is producing similar unsettled weather, the NHC said conditions are only marginally favourable for further development. The system is moving west at 15mph and holds a 30% chance of formation over both the short and longer term.

Hurricane Erin, meanwhile, remains active a few hundred miles northeast of the southeastern Bahamas, where advisories continue to be issued.

Both systems under watch remain at **60% and 30% chances of development respectively**.
