The government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the purchase of a dedicated ambulance to serve communities in the eastern corridor, including St. Philip’s North, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced Saturday.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM, Browne said he has authorized Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph to move forward with acquiring the emergency vehicle to be stationed in the constituency.

“He has asked me for a budgetary amount to acquire an ambulance specifically for that area to be stationed there for the eastern corridor,” Browne said. “So I’ve authorized it, and he’s now getting quotations so we can purchase the ambulance for St. Philip’s North.”

The announcement came as the prime minister outlined a series of infrastructure and public service upgrades planned for the constituency, including a temporary police station, a proposed permanent police and fire station, and the establishment of a pharmacy.

The addition of a dedicated ambulance is expected to improve emergency response times for residents in St. Philip’s North and surrounding eastern communities, which have long relied on centrally dispatched services.

Browne said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare access and emergency services across Antigua and Barbuda.
