Karen Cynthia Joseph
The Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association has congratulated its president, Karen Cynthia Joseph, on receiving a national honour for more than four decades of service to netball, sports development, youth mentorship and national representation.
Joseph was conferred Grand Officer of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage (GOH) as part of Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of Independence National Honours.
“Thank you for your service to netball, and to Antigua and Barbuda!” the association said in a public tribute.
The association highlighted Joseph’s journey from Pares Secondary School and Combined Schools to the senior national team while still in her teens.
At 15, she represented Antigua and Barbuda at the World Netball Championships in Singapore, where the association said she was the tournament’s youngest player. She later represented the country regionally and internationally and played for the West Indies Netball Team.
Joseph was named Antigua and Barbuda’s Sportswoman of the Year in 1990 and 2003. The association also noted her recognition as the world’s second-best goal shooter in 2003.
She has since coached the country’s under-16, under-23 and senior national teams, helping to instil discipline, teamwork and national pride in younger players.
The association described the national honour as well deserved.
