Disturbance Near Cabo Verde Islands Likely to Develop Into Tropical Cyclone

A well-defined low-pressure system just west of the Cabo Verde Islands is showing increasing signs of organization, with forecasters giving it a 90% chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm within the next 48 hours.

Shower and thunderstorm activity has persisted around the system, and if current trends continue, it could strengthen later this morning. Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to continue today across parts of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The disturbance is forecast to move west to west-northwest at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic in the coming days.
