Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the Public Works Department will be hiring additional staff as part of a nationwide push to accelerate road rehabilitation.
Speaking on Pointe FM on Saturday, Mr Browne, who also serves as Minister of Finance, urged interested individuals to apply for the new positions, noting that the department will also be bringing on more engineers to support the intensified efforts.
The move comes as Public Works begins conducting roadworks during the night, with crews already deployed to Herbert’s Road and Newgate Street.
These initial upgrades form part of a broader infrastructure plan to be financed through a XCD$100 million loan secured from local banks.
The loan will be repaid through increased vehicle licensing fees, which were raised earlier this year.
